There is a reason why vampires, werewolves and other monster types do not normally attack in the middle of downtown in broad daylight, or go to the mall to feed on people as they shop. That reason: once the people – en masse – know that the monsters exist, they will mount up a defense en masse to seek them out and destroy them – sort of like you saw at the end of the early Frankenstein movies (remember those?) when the townsfolk would gather together as a ragtag posse with hoes and pitchforks, or what was done during the Salem witch hunts. The monsters certainly don’t want that!
Apollo and the Sisters (and other slayer types, like Buffy – the Vampire Slayer, Blade and The Charmed Ones) do not want people banding together to hunt monsters either. The reason is because such actions are generally fundamentally based on hysteria, which can be just as dangerous as the creatures themselves.
The answer to that problem is to try to keep encounters and battles with Supernaturals as much from the public eye as possible. But, oh, if the Sisters could only have the monsters’, vampires’ and demons’ carcasses “vanish” or become ash when they are killed (like they do for Buffy, Blade and The Charmed Ones – how convenient is that!?) To help keep the public from finding out that a supernatural or other kind of monster-type was killed, the Sisters call “The Cleaner” to remove the carcasses and dispose of them, as well as clean up any other tale-tell signs of such creatures’ existence, if possible.
Morgan is the current Cleaner, and at times chauffeur and basic oddjob man, of the Sisters. Whether it’s a horde of zombies or a single werewolf in the middle of the forest, it is Morgan’s job to get rid of the evidence before the unwary public stumbles upon them (much like a serial killer concealing his crimes).
Morgan is a single, heavy, friendly, happy-go-lucky kind of guy whom the Sisters like very much. Morgan loves football (so much so that he can name every significant player on every team of the NFL, and he dominates fantasy football leagues), likes to throw parties and have backyard barbecues for his friends, goes to church, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who asks. The kind of guy everybody can love – and take advantage of.
But his friends haven’t the foggiest of what he does for a living. (If they did, they’d probably quit being his friends!)
Like the Sisters, The Seeker, Dion and Jaden, Apollo replaces Cleaners when the need arises. New Cleaners do not change their names. (The full name of Morgan is Morgan Freebender. The Cleaner before him was Albert Andraka – whom everyone called Al.) Unlike The Seekers, The Cleaners are not mysterious; and they do their best to live normal lives, despite the work that they are called upon to do.
